Welcome to Utah

Kirton & McConkie is located in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City, the state capital. Salt Lake City rests in a mountain valley formed by the Wasatch Mountains to the east and north, and the Oquirrh Mountains to the west. Salt Lake City, itself, lies 4,330 feet above sea level. However, the mountain ranges surrounding the valley tower above Salt Lake's already elevated stature, the Wasatch Mountains reach 11,000 feet above sea level, and the Oquirrh Mountains rise to 9,500 feet.

For the past six years, Utah has been named one of the top five most liveable states, having most recently been named the fourth most liveable state in the nation. The Salt Lake area, with a population of nearly one million people which comprises more than three-fourths of Utah's total population, serves as the hub of the state's political, social, cultural, and athletic activity. As well, Salt Lake City serves as a gateway to Utah's diverse geography and numerous outdoor opportunities.

Salt Lake offers a variety of social, cultural, and other leisure activities. Various professional sports teams call Salt Lake their home, including, the Utah Jazz, the IHL Utah Grizzlies hockey team, the Salt Lake Stingerzz AAA baseball team, the Utah Freezz WISL indoor soccer team, and the Utah Blitzz mens professional soccer team.

Known for the "Greatest Snow on Earth," Utah offers 14 ski resorts, most of which are within an hour's drive from downtown Salt Lake. From the novice to the expert, all skiers can enjoy the wide variety of ski terrain found at Utah's resorts. Skiing in Utah means skiing at the very same resorts where the world's best skiers competed during the 2002 Winter Olympics. In addition to downhill skiing and snowboarding, Utahns have mastered the art of enjoying every aspect of the snowy outdoors-from helicopter skiing to cross-country skiing, snowshoeing to snowmobiling, tubing to a ride in a horse-drawn sleigh, Utah offers it all.

When the snow melts, Utah residents and visitors have equally endless options for outdoor enjoyment. Utah is home to a number of national parks, including Canyonlands, Bryce, Zion, Capitol Reef, and Arches. Mountain bikers can explore the slick rock trails in Moab and the hiking enthusiast can choose from high mountain trails to lush forest enclaves, to austere desert landscapes. With over 1,000 fishable lakes in Utah, fishing enthusiasts can test their skills against the rainbow or cutthroat trout, the striped bass, walleye, bluegill, and whitefish, as well as other species. Utah is also a hunter's paradise, offering hunting licenses for big game animals like elk, deer, and antelope, as well as for smaller game like pheasant, duck, rabbit, and wild turkey.

In addition to the many outdoor activities, Salt Lake offers all the attractions of a big city. Home to Ballet West, the Utah Opera Company, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Salt Lake supports a full range of artistic and cultural attractions. The University of Utah and Brigham Young University are Utah's two largest institutions of higher learning. From cutting-edge cancer research at the University of Utah to world-class exhibits at the BYU Museum of Art, each school contributes significantly to the vitality of the Salt Lake area. In addition, other educational opportunities abound in Utah, including Westminster College, Southern Utah University, Utah State University, Weber State University, Salt Lake Community College and Utah Valley State College. With this, it is no surprise that Utah has the highest literacy rate in the nation.

Utah is a wonderful place to live and work. Utahns are industrious workers but place a premium on quality personal and family time. Utah's residents, like its landscape, can bring together seemingly different traits and harmonize them to find the best life has to offer.
