Overview

Our international lawyers assist clients with developing and administering global expatriate programs. With our expertise in tax, employment, immigration, social security, and other benefits issues, we streamline our clients’ processes for moving personnel worldwide.

Our attorneys analyze and apply double tax treaties and social security totalization agreements and work with foreign counsel on international (non-U.S.) immigration issues for both short-term visits and long-term expatriate placements. We routinely plan and execute expatriate transfers worldwide, facilitating both U.S. inbound and outbound transfers as well as transfers between foreign countries.

Examples include:

  • Global Migration: We have assisted clients in moving personnel worldwide, including a long-term assignment to the Democratic Republic of Congo for a finance manager from France, short-term transfers to Peru and Brazil for mining and IT technicians from the U.S. and Canada, and relocation to the U.S. and Japan for corporate executives from Australia, China, Chile, Korea, and Mexico.
  • Employment: We help our clients finalize employment agreements, arrange local benefit plans and address foreign employment termination requirements. We also partner with multinational clients to create long-term strategies and solutions for employee foreign travel needs and expatriate benefits and have assisted multinational corporations in defending against employment claims in litigation in numerous countries.
  • Benefits Programs: Our attorneys have extensive experience designing, implementing, and administering international employee benefit programs. We have represented the leading service providers in the benefit plan industry, state-owned enterprises in China, and companies based in the U.S., Europe, Mexico, India, and China.
