Our primary recruiting tool for new associates is our summer associates program.  Our summer program is designed to provide summer associates with a realistic view of life as an associate with Kirton & McConkie. While our summer associate program varies in size from year-to-year, we typically hire four to six law students each summer. The program begins in May and continues through the end of August, depending on the clerk's school schedule. We work hard to ensure a challenging and rewarding experience for each participant.

We have carefully designed our summer program to give each clerk exposure to the firm's practice, our attorneys, and the practice of law in general. Each clerk is assigned a host attorney to provide orientation, feedback, and informal mentoring. The clerk works directly with the firm's attorneys in a variety of projects, such as researching and preparing memoranda, drafting pleadings and briefs, or preparing deeds, contracts, or other documents. Clerks will also attend depositions, trials, motion hearings, client conferences, closings, and other matters of interest to gain exposure to the practical aspects of the firm's practice. At the end of the summer, each attorney with whom he or she worked evaluates the clerk's performance.

The summer program also affords numerous social and recreational opportunities. Recent summer activities have included horseback riding in the mountains, outdoor concerts and theater events, Salt Lake Bees baseball games, and social events at attorneys' homes.
