Brandt’s practice comprises all aspects of intellectual property law, including preparation and prosecution of domestic and foreign patent applications, preparation of legal opinions concerning patent infringement and validity issues, preparation and prosecution of federal trademark applications, and licensing rights.

He works directly with inventors and businesses to prepare and file patent and trademark applications, respond to official communications from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and conduct examiner interviews.  He also conducts post-examination proceedings, such as appeals and oral hearings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB).

Brandt’s practice includes filing foreign patent applications under the International Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and filing trademark applications in foreign countries under the Madrid Protocol and other international agreements.  He also guides foreign patent and trademark prosecution in concert with foreign associates.

The emphasis of Brandt’s practice is in the mechanical arts, but he also has extensive patent drafting and prosecution experience in a variety of arts including medical devices, exercise equipment, optics, telecommunications, power transmission equipment, construction equipment, semiconductors, automotive and vehicle systems, and electrical systems.  He has prepared and/or prosecuted patent applications for many major corporations, including Toyota, Nikon, Xerox, Seiko Epson, Brother International, and Rolls Royce.

Brandt gained extensive patent and trademark experience while working at Schmeiser, Olsen & Watts LLP in Mesa, AZ (2009-2014) and Oliff PLC in Alexandria, Virginia (2008-2009).

Brandt resides in San Tan Valley, AZ with his wife and three children.  Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, watching and participating in sports of all kinds, and hiking in the Superstition Mountains.
